Chamber Warns Businesses Against Unsolicited Bills

- Posted: 11/21/08

QUINCY, FL (November 21, 2008) - The Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce was notified November 20 about attempts to invoice Gadsden County businesses for advertising. Hometown Productions and Universal ADCOM, both located in Arlington, Texas, sent bills to local companies for advertisements supposedly purchased for complimentary products like relocation maps and community guides. The businesses who received these invoices did not purchase advertising. These solicitations were not approved by the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce nor are they acting on our behalf.

The Chamber asks to be notified immediately if you were contacted by these or similar marketing firms since August 2008. Invoices have been sent as recent as October 27, 2008. Business owners who have mistakenly paid these invoices should stop payment if possible and contact the Chamber.

The Chamber requests that copies of any solicitation information and invoices be sent to us via email ( or by fax: (850) 875-3299 by December 1. We will contact the appropriate authorities in Florida and Texas in an effort to stop future solicitations.

We would like to remind all Gadsden County businesses the Chamber prefers to work with local businesses on all projects. Invoices and other correspondence are always mailed from our Quincy office; responses are always received at Post Office Box 389 or 208 North Adams Street in Quincy.

Businesses should be aware the Chamber always mails advertising opportunities, like our upcoming Gadsden County, Florida: Community Guide, with an introductory letter on original letterhead and a local return address, contact phone number and email address. These mailings are accompanied by announcements in the Gadsden County newspapers and the Chamber Chatter electronic newsletter as well as through follow-up emails, postcards and phone calls from our small Chamber staff.

Please contact Michelle Burdick, the Chamber's vice president of membership, at or by calling (850) 627-9231 with questions and concerns.
