Enterprise Zone InformationApproximately twenty square miles of Gadsden County is contained in an Enterprise Zone. An Enterprise Zone is a specific geographic area targeted for economic growth and revitalization. Investments in distressed areas are encouraged by offering tax advantages and incentives to businesses locating within the zone boundaries. One of the goals of the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council is to maximize these benefits to new and existing businesses in Gadsden County. An Enterprise Zone is a geographical area targeted for economic revitalization. Q. Who may benefit from an Enterprise Zone? A. A new business locating in the Enterprise Zone; an existing business in the Enterprise Zone that is expanding in jobs, equipment, or square footage; or, a residence in the Enterprise Zone that is being rehabilitated. Incentive 1 - Jobs Credit - Rural Enterprise Zones To claim this credit your business must: • collect and remit Florida Sales and Use Tax, or • pay Florida corporate income tax; and, • must be located within a Rural Enterprise Zone.
Incentive 2 - Business Equipment Sales Tax Refund - Rural Enterprise Zone Allows a state sales tax refund on equipment that costs $5,000 per unit, if this equipment is to be used exclusively in an Enterprise Zone for at least three years. Incentive 3 - Building Materials Sales Tax Refund - Rural Enterprise Zone Allows a state sales tax refund on building materials purchased for new construction or the renovation of existing buildings and residences in an Enterprise Zone. 97 percent of the 6 percent state sales tax is refundable. Incentive 4 - Property Tax Credit - Rural Enterprise Zone (Corporate Income Tax) Allows a corporate tax credit to a corporation that establishes five or more jobs, when it builds, rebuilds, or expands its business in the Enterprise Zone. Credit on income tax equal to 96 percent of ad valorem taxes paid on new or improved property. Incentive 5 - Property Tax Exemption for Child Care Facilities Allows real estate used and owned as a childcare facility in an Enterprise Zone an exemption from ad valorem property tax. Incentive 6 - Community Contribution Tax Credit Business located anywhere in Florida that make donations to approved community development projects may receive a tax credit equal to 50 percent of the value of the donation. Incentive 7 - Rural Job Tax Credit Program A rural job tax credit is an incentive for eligible businesses located within one of the thirty-seven designated qualified rural areas to create new jobs. It is credited against corporate income tax or sales and use tax. Incentive 8 - Rural Enterprise Zone Jobs Tax Credit For up to 24 months; credited against corporate income tax or sales and use tax Incentive 9 - Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund Cash tax refund over a minimum of four years; requires local match of 20 percent of amount of award. County will request to waive required 20 percent.
